【摘要】在威海卫修建了带有防御功能的城墙,筑起了卫城,希望能“威振海疆”。 1875年李鸿章奉命督办北洋海防,总揽了山东海防事业。作为北洋海防总管,李鸿章逐步开展了山东海防建设,将晚清山东海防事业的发展推向了一个高峰。1888年成立北洋海军,然而北洋海军成军之日,也是她发展停滞之时,此后清朝政府再也没有购置任何新式船舰,这就是在1894年日本发动中日甲午侵略战争中,以北洋海军惨败而告终的重要原因之一。 甲午战败后,帝国主义国家蜂拥而至,他们展开了瓜分中国的狂潮。1898年7月,英帝国主义以均势为由,租借威海卫城除外的威海全湾(包括刘公岛等附属岛屿)及沿岸10英里以内之地,陆地面积达640平方公里,于是威海卫在英国殖民统治下整整32年(刘公岛被统治42年之久)。1930年被当时的国民政府收...

【外文摘要】Weihai was called Weihaiwei in the history, which was derived from the Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty. In ancient times, Weihai was just a small coastal fishing village in the border area, called Shiluo Village in Han Dynasty and renamed Qingquan Kuang in Yuan Dynasty.
