【外文摘要】　 ABSTRACTIn the Sino—Japanese War of 1894—1895 ，the Qing Empire was defeated by the small state—Japan. There are voluminous studies in China, Japan and other countries, which look into the reasons of China’s defeat in the war. This paper attempts to examine why the Qing Empire was defeated in the war from the cognitive perspective. The author argues that it is the Qing government’s long existing despising cognition and misperceptions of Japan that eventually lead to China’s failure in the war.
